I guess my '08 vert going out of warrantee isn't as big a deal as I thought. I had hopes, and have a great "touring" car. But then again, I've owned a Daimler SP since 1961, so I can't claim to be the brightest bulb on the tree.
 
Sad to hear - but I'd still love to have a Monte Carlo 850.
GM doesn't seem to have a great track record - aren't they the
ones that shut down Saturn?

The other SAAB is still doing fine.

One of my sons-in-law has a 9-3 which seems to be a nice car. Never has problems with it.
 
Very sad. My Old Man worked for SAAB for a while back in the early 60s 2-stroke days, when they first started to import cars to the UK.
I stil have a couple of odd tools and stuff from back then.

And Pontiac and Oldsmobile and Hummer and Bedford and LaSalle and...

At least Lotus got spun off before GM "managed" to completely destroy it.

I can think of several more outfits that should be mere ~memories~ now due to ineptitude.

Nothing wrong with letting the unfit and inept crumble under their own weight!

(Just hope their employees have jobs waiting elsewhere ...)

If you have a few hours, take a look at Lacey's "Ford: the Men and the Machine". Really fascinating study of the rise, fall, rise, fall, etc. of one of the great USA auto producers.

And for another few hours: Iacocca's 1984 autobiography. The automobile becomes the marketing, and vice versa. Mustang yes! Mustang II - well, it was an interesting idea.

The sad story is that for everyone who is lamenting the loss and blaming GM, no one stepped forward to buy any on the dealers lots to keep them going. There are dealers trying to give them away well below their cost and offering extended warranties and still not enough takers.
 
Those are good cars. Sure wish I'd known dealers were pushing them a few months ago when I bought my first new car in 10 years.

No Saab ads anywhere I've seen or heard (local CT newspapers, TV, radio, etc.).

Tom, not far from you in Johnston, RI, is Hurd GMC, Buick, Chevrolet & Saab. The ProJo ran a big story about the owner and how he was trying to move Saab cars about two months ago.
