Well after two years the S.S. battery box still looks good. I pulled the battery out to charge it, because I had thought the battery was going dead. Turns out that the starter is shot. A little simple green and the box looks like new!!Now to clean up under the carbs while they are off the car.

Dan, I'm not a big fan of stainless but the battery box is the one place I might reconsider. Looks great. Did you re-route the drain? Also noticed the alloy rocker cover. That also looks great. Tom

Hey Tom. I did not put a drain in the box because "I forgot" But it is easy to add one, just drill a hole flare a piece of s.s. tubing, and solider. I think I will do that while I wait for my new starter to arrive.

Dan, I wonder if it's really needed with the ss box and mf battery. I never liked that hose. Tom

I think that the only reason that it is needed is eithre rain water or when you wask the car. Water can get in the box.

Dan, what grade of ss did you use? Sulphuric acid will attack 304 and 316. Did you stick with a standard battery or go with something like an Optima?

Should you decide to add one, soldering a drain line into the stainless tank is likely to be a pretty difficult task. Even with good flux, soldering stainless is not easy.

On the Spitfire and GT6 I opted to fiberglass the battery box and then fit one of the plastic liners to it. It's not as attractive as your installation but it does keep the battery in place with no acid drips on my passenger's feet.
