Ryan,
You are getting accolades on the other posts for your helping of Keenan, so I thought you deserved your own. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
We havn't really heard from Keenan, as to what the current status is of the engine as far as running is. Can you enlighten us a bit?
We all want to see him succeed with this project, and you are really going above and beyond the call of duty.
So, what's he got? Maybe a week or so? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Thanks

Paul

Is Ryan on this board? If not someone get him here!

Not sure he's a member here (yet) Paul. Haven't heard anything from him since his trip to Keenan's. Maybe he's still thawing out?

Someone go to MGBE and invite him over.

On the way. Kenny

There aren't many people so generous with their time, Keenan is one very lucky fellow, and Ryan deserves all the recognition we can give him for his selfless generosity!
Looking forward to hearing about the progress made.

Hi guys, new member here! Thanks for the accolades, but I'm just doing what a lot of you would do if you were close enough to help. Here's the status report:

We made a lot of progress on Saturday, but there's still a way to go. It's a little frustrating (admit it Keenan, it is) because Keenan was the opposite of organized when he took everthing apart. We spent a lot of time pawing around on the floor of his garage looking for stuff. The driveshaft, speedo, exhaust, intake, carb, radiator and starter are all hooked up. The alternator is mounted, but I don't think it's lined up quite right so we need to do some fiddling with that. The two big issues left are the distributor and the carb. On the alternator, the engine we installed has a 25d with points, and his old engine had a 45d with a pertronix ignitor. I'm not sure which one he should use, and if I use the ignitor I don't know if there's a special procedure for setting the timing. On the carb, it took me at least an hour to put it together since Keenan took all of the linkage and return springs apart. Also, we installed the manual choke conversion but I have no idea how you adjust it with the long allen wrench. Can anyone help with the carb and distributor issues?

Oh yeah, it was COLD. When I got there is was 0 degrees F and Keenan hadn't started any heat yet. My fingers went completely numb within about 2 minutes while I was trying to bolt up the driveshaft. Fun! I had on insulated coveralls, a stocking had and gloves. Keenan had on a long sleeve t-shirt and jeans.

Ryan

"long sleeve t-shirt and jeans" Oh to be young again.

Ryan, I just wish I could help. I really do. Keenan seems like a nice guy and willing to work and learn. I am sure the B' folks can help with the dizzy and carbs, no question in my mind.

Oh, check out the site, for my money this is the place to be. Lots of activity and knowledge when it is needed and shared without reservation. Hope to see a lot more of you.

HIYA Ryan! Thaw out yet?

And DUDE...check your Powerball tickets!!!

Ryan - glad you're over here - now, don't be a stranger

After you left, keenan went out in the garage & smelled gas & made a frantic call to me wanting to know where it could've come from....after I walked him all around the car to the various places where gas could be laking, we finally agreed it was probably left over from the carb assembly process

...I've gotta hand it to you, man; your patience is something else...your little kids are lucky to have someone with that much patience as their dad!

Get that thing running then he can bring you pudding. hehe.

I didn't win the Powerball, but someone in Lincoln 40 miles away DID! I hope it's somebody with enough sense to manage it.

Hmmm.. there shouldn't be any gas smell from anything we did on Saturday. The carb was completely dry and had no smell at all. The car had no battery in it and therefore the pump couldn't run. Unless Keenan put the battery in after I left and turned the key on?

Janel, my cheeks were red and chapped and burning yesterday. I must have frozen them a little on Friday putting in my alternator!

Ryen - he said he didn't put a battery in it - that was the first question I asked

could be just overall garage/disassembled car smell as things started to warm up...or could be he just happened to notice something different.....from his answers to me, I wasn't concerned & he's not posted that his house burned overnight!

Ryan,
I know the feeling you have after the day is done. I've helped with 4H kids and you should be proud at the extra effort you went to.

<standing ovation from us Californians>

Welcome to BCF Ryan.
I spent an hour this morning, when I got home from work, helping my neibour get her car going. I could not imagine spending "hours" on it. She is young too, in Collage, and knocked on my door because she says she sees me working all the time on cars, so I must know what I am doing. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nonod.gif Must have been some advantage as we got it going. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif
The only time I have left the house in the last week is to go to work. -7 c outside everyday, and a stale lingering COLD in the garage, so no GT work at all for me. (no time anyway). Warming up here to above freezing, so I will venture out with some days off this week.
I thought you were supposed to smell gas when working out in the garage? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Keenan's nasel passages were probably frozen.
Good luck finding your GT, and again, welcome to this forum.

Paul
