Rust in Carbs -- What to do?

Hello! I've finally taken the carbs off my '52 TD for their rebuild. I've noticed that there is some rust-like (probably rust) sediment in the float bowls. Not a heck of a lot, but enough to be very apparent. I believe the carbs have been in service for about 23 years since their last rebuild based on information from the P.O.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for any advice given!

That's probably indicitive of a bad gas tank. Do you know it's condition? Have you noticed any rust like sediment in the fuel filter?

It's normal to have some sediment, there is all kinds of crap in gas. But my first concern would be to find out if your gas tank is rusting on the inside.
 
John's right about rust being in the tank. I watched my local British car mechanic take a TD tank off a car and pull the sending unit. The side of the tank had previously been patched with fiberglass. He had to order a new one to the cost of $1000!
