Russian Meteorite

This seems like an unusual coincidence. For several weeks we've heard that an asteroid will pass near Earth today, but no damage is expected.

Then this morning we hear that a meteor has just crashed and injured over 400 people in Russia.

hmmm

NASA will chronicle the asteroid pass starting tomorrow. See HERE

So far there does not seem to be any connection between the asteroid and this meteorite. This asteroid will pass within 17K miles of earth - that is VERY close!

What gets me is the guy who keeps driving towards what appears to be an incoming ICBM.

A huge meteor(ite) and a super-close asteroid fly-by. Seems like an *unusually* unlikely coincidence ...

No worries. We can always trust the experts -

Heard an interview on NPR that Russians often now have videos in their cars (running all the time) as a kind of "insurance" (given the number of BAD drivers). Thus all the footage. Amazing stuff.
With something entering the atmosphere at about 20+ times the speed of sound, the compression of air is massive and thus the huge pressure concussions and sonic booms.

Not just bad drivers, but people running out in front of cars, insurance fraud. Was in the car for a few hours yesterday and it was fascinating how many different sizes, weights and power it was. The explosion was either the size of the Hiroshima blast or 12X or 20X or 30X. Big enough by any measure.
