Running with Webers

Well, I got far enough to attempt to start my engine with my new Webers. The good news is that is started right up. The bad news (hopefully just temporary) is that it idles at 3000 RPM. I closed down the idle screws all the way and got it to around 2000 RPM. After reading about the adjustments again, I found that one of the air bypasses was open, and the idle mixture screws were opened way up. I didn't have a chance to run it after fixing those things. Hopefully that is the problem, and not an air leak.

Also, my new Denso alternator is working, but my ignition warning light doesn't operate. I wired it up according to Dan Master's instructions at the VTR site (or at least that's what I intended to do!). I'll have to debug that as well.

Still have my new electric fuel pump to install, Mallory distributor, and figure out what I want to do for air cleaners.

Well, got the alternator sorted out. Had the sense and ignition connections mixed up, essentially making it a "one wire" alternator. The idle speed is down a bit with closing off the one air bypass, but I'm starting to suspect I have a vacuum leak. I guess I need to pick up some spray carb cleaner and check.

Which Webers are you using, Darrell?

40 DCOEs, with 34 mm main venturis.

I had just ONE 45DCOE on a hot rodded 77 Civic many moons ago. JUST ONE. It was a handful to get tuned correctly. But once I did, it was GREAT. Once you sort out any air leaks, make SINGLE changes on all four throats and adjust slowly. The CRITICAL adjustment will be synchronizing them. Out of sync side draft Webers sometimes act like they have air leaks. There are a couple fantastic books out on setting up Webers. They are a must have. And so is someone with lots of jets. You'll know when you get it right - it feels like the car is fuel injected. Oh, I have a bank of THREE Webers on my GT6+.
