That's a shame. He was a great actor.

One of my favorite Arkin movies was Last of the Red Hot Lovers! Loved the scene where Sally Kellerman's character gives him a joint and he thinks he's dying!

Friend of mine was producing a folk song LP record years ago. At a party in New York, he asked who could play a recorder. Alan Arkin said he could. A week later, they cut the record and Arkin played the recorder. He was good. They asked him how long he had been playing and he said "One week". He needed the money. I gave away the record years ago but the producer gave me a tape when I told him I had that record. It was called "When Knighthood was in Flower and Maidens lost their Heads". For those unfamiliar with the recorder, it's like a flute.

but rotated 90 degrees.... for those of us who grew up thinking these were kids toys some of them are rather expensive and "real" musical instruments. My son has a few reasonably high quality recorders in different octaves. They sound quite a bit different than the school quality ones.

Recorders? did someone mention recorders? a simple wooden flute, in all sizes, played like a clarinet?

They've been a group since around 1997. The instruments were popular in Renaissance and Baroque period (1200-1750 or so).
