Ruidoso Fire

Just spoke with a good friend last night who lives near Ruidoso. The "McBride" fire has already consumed over 150 structures and is 0% contained. It has been VERY windy the past couple of days (where we live and in Ruidoso as well). My friend may need to evacuate soon as the fire is literally over the hill from his home.


Here is a short clip he shot on iPhone from atop a hill near his house. Hard to see through the tress but near the end of the clip you gat a pretty good view of the fire. Scary stuff! (Side note - This is the area wife and I went camping a couple of weekends ago).

Some pictures I took last year of a large area in the same general vicinity that had suffered some devastating fires about 10 years ago. Trees and vegetation just starting to repopulate.

Wildfires are so common now and the complex firestorms - with their own driving winds - are extremely devastating and unpredictable. Monitor, be on alert and stay safe. We maintain a "go kit" in the event of an evacuation.
 
I was talking to my son the other day and he said it's going to be a bad fire year. He's been out around Woodward (north western OK) for the past week and has worked over 65,000 acres of fire.
