Ruddspeed carbs

There must have been 2 types of period casting of the Ruddspeed manifold, mine looks like Randy's example which will accomadate a hi-performance free-flowing header design. The other with the lower integral balance pipes as see here on the 1960, former Bill Bolton owned Canadian Championship winning 3000 # 171.

'dougie' with the balance pipes shown between these Ruddspeed carbs, from your experience is it possible to still fit a tubular exhaust manifold to increase flow ? I see in the picture they have left the cast iron manifold in place.

I don't think any of the existing "off-the-shelf" tubular exhaust headers would clear the balance pipes. I think if you went to a custom shop, a set could be made to fit.

Cooperman;I suspect the only thing I may add is trouble[/QUOTE said:
I agree with you, if you really wont a speedy engine, more works must be done - crankshaft and connecting rods must be strictly balanced and cam must be a fast road (minimum) type (I have found one my conn.rods with more than 150 gr weight difference)
I have 100/6 2.4 l with this modifications and the power are more than the normal 3000 with two SU -
I have also 3 X Weber DCOE battery, ready - but car go so well, that I never decided to mount (only trimed and tested during the car rebuild) here my last version with MANGOLESI Linkages comand

There’s also another style of Ruddspeed without the Intake manifold fins for LH drive cars. I used to own one. It may take me a while to find a photo of it.

Mine is a right hand drive BN6 100/6 just in the process of rebuilding a 2.9 engine to a triple carb fast road spec to replace the 2.6 engine. Part of my upgrade involves a Ruddspeed conversion with the period correct RHD manifolds and rocker cover.

Will post some pictures once its complete.
