... with some legends last night. It was the 10th Anniversary Holiday party at the Shelby American Collection in Boulder. I've been to six of them before as well as having been to the collection numerous other times. So forgive me I seem a little jaded about not thinking that its a big deal to be standing in a room full of original Cobras, GT40's, a Daytona Coupe and many other pieces of Shelby American memorabilia. The real stars of the show were the VIP's.

From left to right... Steve Volk (main guy behind the collection), Carroll Shelby, Tom Yaeger, Bob Bondurant and Jack Sears.

The 'new' car in the collection for me was a Ferrari 410 Super Sport Scaglietti that had been raced by Carroll Shelby, Phil Hill, Richie Ginther and a few others. Being a Tifosi myself /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif I was naturally drawn to it. Here it is with a 289 Cobra and an idea of the crowd present.

One more... a little more attention to composition this time. As much as I could with the massive crowd anyway. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Boy, look better than they ever did on the track.

And Bondurant looks the same as he did THIRTY years ago!!

...but I wuz lookin' *up* at 'im then, too... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Hmmm... How I just wish I was there, but I've beaten this to death /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif The majority of us just go through life never mixing with the famous, and some of us just plain get lucky along the way...

Trust you enjoyed the evening, and those cars are fabulous!

Hi Sherlock,
Keep in mind, they are just people. Some aren’t that interesting, and then there are some you just wouldn’t like.

And all in my home town. Too cool...

Yes, they are just people. Greg is right, some of them will rub you the wrong way immediately thinking their stuff doesn't stink. Others are down to earth and quite friendly. Bob Bondurant falls into the latter category. At least that has been my experience with him and he is one of my favorites to chat with when I go to this event. With Carroll it depends upon his mood. A straighter talking person you would be hard pressed to find though.

In the 60s Carroll was a super nice guy. He came to Hawaii to race and messed around with us a bit.
