TR2/3/3A rubber seal go towards the inside of the trunk

Does the drip edge or overhang of the rubber seal go towards the inside of the trunk on a pre-60K or does the edge point out? I remember the debate and that someone had the gas tank out and actually looked inside with a flashlight and found the seal was better with the overhang end pointing inside the trunk which sounds counterintuitive; what way was it?

I am the one who crawled inside in 2-2-2015 and tried gasket both ways . lip inward vs outward. Like no fit if outward. After much cutting and fitting the height of the mounting flange I, gained an inward fit. I have the measurements and solution on file. Now, 4 years later, I tried the $1 bill test. I have only one section that needs adjustment. should have tested my work 4 yrs ago!! Any one with gasket lip outward, please try the refrigerator test. I would like to know if either way works equally. I have a '60 tr3a TS75773. can make copy of my notes. LeT

I’ll play along... I replaced the original trunk weatherstripping a couple of years ago, using the TRF seal, pre 60K car. Using the original as a template, the seal “points” outward. After a couple of years, the top seal now points inward to the trunk, I’m guessing the trunk has naturally forced the seal this way.

The sides and bottom of the seal remain pointing outward. In my car, the seal was cut in 2 pieces: across the top was one piece, the sides and bottom were all one piece.

The TRF seal works fine in my experience, and fit perfectly in the channel.
