Rubber Grommet

How do you remove the rubber grommet from around the gas filler neck without ruining it? It looks like the DPO replaced it because it looks fairly new. I know it isn't a big expense but seems a shame to ruin it. I've tried to push it thru from inside the vehicle with a flat screw driver, I've cocked the filler tube while trying to work one side, I've tried to force the neck thru it but it is just too tight. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/hammer.gif Do I just cut it and replace it?

Need to have the pipe out me thinks.

Jack's correct - pipe's gotta be out of the hole.

Use some silicone spray and slide it out after taking pipe out.

The pipe has two major humps that capture the hose to tank with a clamp and the outside has the cap flange. Do I lube it up and try to push it over the humps for the filler hose to tank? There doesn't seem to be enough room and would require major force. Then the grommet would be easy to remove. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wall.gif

Push it out from the inside after you release it from the 2 hose clamps

If the rubber has hardened you may end up having to cut it off. Assuming you have taken the filler hose off, lube the filler neck and carefully try to force it through to the exterior. I say carefully because it isn't worth bending the body panel to get it out.

Also exercise caution putting it back in as it even easier to push the body panel in (creating a dent) if you are not careful.

I used the silicone and the humps slipped right through the grommet. Then, of course, the grommet came right out. Bless the silicone! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/lol.gif
