Rubber floor mats leaving marks

I've just completed an interior refit and the carpets are a beautiful creamy-beige colour but I'm a little worried about the floor mats.

The existing ones I have, lovely Austin Healey black rubber ones, are likely to leave marks on the carpets if I put them down. I've tried washing them but no matter how hard I clean them, they still leave marks on my hands, nevermind a light coloured carpet!

Any ideas as to how I should go about finding a remedy?

I want to use the rubber mats for practicality so I was thinking of taping up the edges but that's a bit half-arsed. Line them with carpet on the underside?

Suggestions welcome.....

robwarren, perhaps you can buy additional matching carpet cut it to the outline of the rubber mats and have the outer edges welted/bound for a nice clean looking fit? those rubber ones do a wonderful job of holding in moisture hence rusted floor pans.

I might consider lining the underside of the rubber mats, perhaps with a nonwoven material such as Tyvek? There are some good 3M spray adhesives that work well with rubber...just be sure there is no overspray at the edges, which would attract debris and possibly soil your carpets. Contact cement might also work?
