MGB Rubber bumper weight surprise..

Offline
I took the front bumper off of my B this past weekend. All the years of hearing everyone say how much weight they added, had me a little nervous. I actually had them supported while removing the nuts so it wouldn't fall and hurt me. I was literally expecting to strain picking it up.

Wow!! They can't be much different in weight than a chrome bumper.

Rick Ingram had a post where he weighed both.
I can't remember where I saw it.

I was expecting like 50+lbs. They are very light.

I wonder if they had been previously hollowed out? While not as heavy as I anticipated, my midget rubber bumpers were a lot heavier than the chrome bumpers replacing them.

BTW Just thought of this:

MG Midget Buggy Bumpers - tee hee - say that 5 times fast. :jester:

The front rubber bumper, with irons and turn signal assemblies, weighs 51 pounds.

The rear rubber bumper weighs in at 43 pounds.

For comparison, the steel bumpers weigh in at 12 pounds each.
