Rubber Bumper MG "B"

might be able to pick up decent driver Tuesday. It is a rubber bumper repaint car with decent interior. I assume they are decent cars. I have always owned the Midgets/Sprites.

Stick with my $500.00 Midget and build the motor, or consider a "B" at $1500.00

Re: Rubber Bumper MG "B"

The B's are pretty roomy and all.
They can be a tad bit sluggish compared to driving a Spridget.

Re: Rubber Bumper MG "B"

The heater will melt you out of the car if it works correctly. A RB car is kind of anemic if it's all original. There's a gob more power in 'em "potentially" but getting to it is kinda pricey.

Re: Rubber Bumper MG "B"

Go for it! Tony's got a big head start on you, but this would get a little farther down the road to owning one of every MG ever made.

Re: Rubber Bumper MG "B"

B's better for daily driver & power can be gotten out of it without opening the engine - just replacing some external engine parts.

Re: Rubber Bumper MG "B"

The B is a great car. Our B is so much more "refined" than our BE it is like a totally different experience.
Smooth with nice features like roll up windows, fold down top, door handles and ...gasp...a real trunk of sorts.
Very soft ride as compared to the BE. Quiet too.
Just an all around nice driver. More civilized.
I wouldn't consider a several hour drive in the BE but wouldn't hesitate in the B.
Now I'm comparing my somewhat modified BE to our stock steel bumper B but I think the observations would hold true for even a later Spridget vs a later B.
I say add the B AND rebuild the Midget when time and budget allow.

Re: Rubber Bumper MG "B"

I think the MGB is the best touring car of all the LBCs, really. Lots of leg room, comfy seats, and good headroom in the ragtop and BGT.

And, generally the rubber bumper Bs are a great value since they're not quite as sought-after at the chrome bumper cars. Just as good, tho', with a little fettling as good as any.

If you have the budget and skills, go for the B. :yesnod:

Funny you should mention that because when I was looking at the B the guy told me to check out another one in rear field. It is a silver Triump Stag Coupe
It has been nasty here and didn't want to treck accross 1000 feet in the muddy field to check it out. on the list of things to do next week.

Can I expect 25 MPG on the average for the MGB, one reason it will be a daily driver (current hot rod gets 12MPG)

Re: Rubber Bumper MG "B"

I was thinking same thing but not sure as what a good deal on the Stag would be. Plus know way of checking cars out or condition other than walk arounds (wholesale type of deal)and I only have one chance at buying it.

Re: Rubber Bumper MG "B"

If the Stag's not a rust bucket, grab it! They have a kit out that solves the original engine problems with that V8.

And, Stags have a very dedicated following, it would likely be very easy to flip if it is in any kind of shape

Re: Rubber Bumper MG "B"

I will have time for a 5 min. inspection time before offer, what are problem areas and a decent driver is worth ?

Re: Rubber Bumper MG "B"

There's a guy just South of Charleston that has
about 7 Stags.I could put you in touch with him,if you'd
like.

Post this query on the Triumph forum. Randall has a Stag....

Re: Rubber Bumper MG "B"

saw this ad today

Triumph Stag, 3.8 litre Buick engine professionally installed, auto trans, body done, painted (brown) needs interior and finishing. Rebuilt steering rack, like new top, new exhaust and lots of other new bits. Get ready for the Stag's 40th at Bronte this Sept. Asking $3500

Re: Rubber Bumper MG "B"

J-P: where was that car located?

Re: Rubber Bumper MG "B"

It's about 25 minutes away - the seller is in my club - PM me if you want contact info. If I remember correctly (and I could be wrong) it came from the USA as was bought jointly by the seller and another Stag fan I know - not sure what they were going to do with it, I think they just bought it cause it's a stag - they've had it for a year or more and I think have been trying to get rid of it for 6 months or so

Re: Rubber Bumper MG "B"

Just asking.....there was one sorta like that for sale here except it had a Pinto engine in it the last time I saw it - couldn't get out of its own way...they tried to sell it for years & then it disappeared.
