Rubber Boots - front lamps?

Hello All!

MOSS sells two different length rubber boots for the the front lamps....
They sell a 2 3/8 inch and a 3 1/4 inch version.

Why a short one and a long one? Is one for earlier vs later models (different length lamp assembly)?

Thanks,
Bob

Thanks Steve,

So, additionally that means the bulb housing is deeper on the earlier vs later version.

Does anyone have any pictures that they could post of the earlier vs later housings?

Thanks!
Bob

Only the Hundred models (4-cyl) used the flat lense with the deeper-set bulb holder.

All 100/6 & 3000 models, prior to the BJ8 PHII, used the "beehive" glass lenses (front and rear__clear or red__as required). These require the shorter rubber boot.

Here's a glimpse of the backside of the rubber boot:

Last summer, I decided to replace all 4 rubber boots on my Mark II, BT7, and ordered four 3 1/4" boots from my favorite Moss distributor. The Moss website showed both the 3 1/4" (#280-520) and the 2 3/8" (#159-600) as being replacement boots for the "594" lens. My new boots were longer than the old ones (believed to be the original ones with the car), but each lamp unit, ring, and lens taken from an old, short boot, easily fit into each new, long boot. I replaced the boots, and the only differences that I see is that more of the wiring is inside the boot, and the longer boot protrudes further inside the fender.

I believe that the 2 3/8" boots are correct for the BT7, but the 3 1/4" boots will work. Several years ago, I had a Mark II BJ7 parts car, and I think that it had the longer boots as original.

Thanks, lots of good information!

Does anyone have any pictures that they could post of the later style front lamp housing (amber turn, white park)?

Would like to see how the housing looks and how the wiring is attached to the housing. Does the ground wire attach via a bullet connector into a small rolled up metal strip on the housing, or are both wires integrated into the housing,etc..?

I posted a picture of the back of my lamps. Missing are the boots. Also note that the lamps are installed incorrectly. The housing with the green wire (turn signal) is in the wrong position, etc. This will be corrected once I determine if these are correct for my BJ8 MkIII Phase 2 model. Are these the correct housings for my model?

Thanks again!
Bob
