Roy Brown [designer of the Edsel] passed away

Spunds like an interesting (and fun) guy.

Boy I wouldn't want my epitaph to be 'designer of the Edsel.' That said its always sad when one of the old timers passes away, seems like so may of that generation are dying here lately.

I heard his son designed the Pontiac Aztek.

The Aztec wasn't designed. That's what happens when you shove a potato up the exhaust of a '88 Lemans.

Twas designed - by focus groups and committee. Actually wouldn't mind having the design of the Edsel on my resume. Partly because history has actually been kind to the Edsel (I'd own one - especially a wagon!) but, more to the point, as a people we have forgotten that not everything works out. No risk no reward. So he made a poor design, he made more good ones.

There was an interesting article about Roy Brown in today's Wall Street Journal.... I smiled when I read that he liked to call the Edsel "Ford's most successful failure."
