routing of the tach cable in a BN2

Can anyone advise the correct routing for the tachometer cable in a BN2. Trying to figure out where it goes through the firewall.

Thanks

It goes through a indent in the top flange of the extension panel. Right beside the speedo cable. See the attached pic.

Dave,

Thank you for the response and the photo. By any chance do you have a shot from the engine side. I do not have a speedo cable installed either, and this is a car with sold originally without a heater. I am assuming it goes through the big access hole in the middle of the upper firewall. But then the cable I have is not long enough to reach the tach. Sorry to look a gift horse in the mouth.

Thanks again,
Scott (cheapbastard)

Hi Scott,
I can't get a front pic that really shows anything.

The tach cable exits the rear of the tach drive, low on the LH side of the engine, goes straight back toward the extension panel, sweeps up through the panel flange slot, & curves over to the tach. It is about 33" long.

The speedo cable exits the drive on the RH side of the transmission heading forward, makes a gentle curve across the top of the transmission, curves upward through the same slot as the tach cable, & curves over to the speedo. It is about 63" long.

The top of the extension panel flange, shown in the pic, is indented enough to allow the two cables to pass through side by side. A small bit of sealer around the cables will provide an air tight seal. The extension panel is the piece that fits between the the inner edges of the footwells & over the transmission hump.

The big access hole in the firewall leads to an inner flange & nut which is used to secure the bottom heater mounting stud. See if the attached sketch helps.

Hi Pete,
I try to save pics of obscure details for reference. It's nearly impossible to keep track of where they all come from. If I remember correctly, it's a very nice looking & well done car. This happened to be the only pic I've found of this particular detail that really shows anything. Congratulations on a nice car.

Thanks Dave,
Sadly I sold that car ( to buy a 911). Healey's are in my blood and I'm currently looking for another car.
