My shop manual calls for a mininum brake rotor thickness of 8.51 mm. This seems very thin

The same manual gives a stock thickness of 10.32mm

My used rotors are 12.44mm

My Tiger uses 16P callipers and IIRC it calls for 1/2" rotors
I also have used Datsun 204Z pads for the past 37 years as they have about 20% larger surface area.

What is the correct new rotor thickness and the mininum thickness
 
The minimum rotor thickness would depend on the application. It may be different between Tigers and Healeys. It is usually stamped on the rotor someplace. The Brembo rotors I installed on my BJ8 a few years ago have the minimum thickness stamped on the outer circumference, but I don't remember the exact numbers.

Are you using the 240Z pads on your Tiger or your Healey?
 
Sorry for the confusion as I am questioning the rotor thickness for my BJ8 phase 2
The manual I refer to is a reproduction of the BMC factory manual
issue 7 - 55352

No thickness stamping on the rotor that I can see

I now see that Moss is selling reproduction rotors for 36.00. Granted they are 30% off right now but this sems too cheap. Are they any good?
If good, then it is hardly worth maching the old ones but I would like to know the mininum thickness all the same

The Tiger comments are an aside as the callipers are the same on both the Healey and Tiger
 
FWIW, I tried to get my BJ8's rear drums turned a few years ago; the techs couldn't find a minimum thickness spec anywhere and refused to turn them. In CA, it's apparently a pretty serious offense (criminal, even) to turn rotors or drums down below spec. Sounds like there aren't any specs for rotors, either.

I bought Moss rotors a few years ago on sale. They are Brembo; good enough for me. You could call Moss and see if they are still selling Brembos.
 
Hoghead, my experience (28 years' worth) with new pads and rotors on my BJ8 is that if the brakes aren't bedded in, it won't be long until you'll get a pulsing "grab and release" feeling from the front brakes as you're slowing down.

Sorry if I don't recognize you, but is your BJ8 in the Registry?
