Rostyle Wheel: What Would You Do?

Greetings,

First post here, so be gentle. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/lol.gif

Took a slow leaking tire in to have it fixed. The shop told me it was the rim (rostyle) that was leaking.

Since I like the Rostyle wheel, I would prefer to keep them. I also live in a remote area and finding one is going to be a problem. So, would you just put in an inner tube, try to find the leak and have it welded, put in "slime" and use it as a spare, or what would you do? Of course, safety is the MAIN concern. Also, where would be a good place to buy one?

Thanks for any reply.

Safety Fast,

If the rim is rusted to the point that there is a pin hole through it, then I would be concerned that the rim is weakened all over and would replace it. I've never personally seen a rostyle rim that has rusted all the way through but anything is possible with the rust monster.
I would check all the others if there is any possibility that they are rusted as bad. If so then post in the classified forum. I'm sure someone here has an extra set.
I know where I could get a single one for cheap if your near upstate N.Y.

Firstly, welcome to the BCF! Now, down to business.....I think you can get the rim skimmed to even it up, but it may be more cost-effective to have an inner tube put in, and use it as a spare. You should be able to buy a new one from Moss if that's what you'd prefer to do.

Check out ebay. I picked up 2 rostyles off there for 50 bucks. 10 bucks a piece and 15 a piece shipping. Going practice painting on them and use one to replace the dinged spare.

Did he say how it's leaking? Bent rim bead? Rust? A Hole? (Ok I didn't mean it like that!) Rostyles are cheap and plentiful. If your rim is suspect then you can pick up another fairly easy. I agree with Steve about installing a tube and using it as a spare. If your spare is in good order then just move that one to daily use. Good luck!

I would agree with Stewart, I bet you can find them dirt cheap on Ebay.

I have one with a bent spot on the rim that prevented the tire from sealing - and just put a tube in it to use as a spare, since the other 4 are just fine. I'd probably let the tire guy determine if that's possible with yours - or if the damage is so bad it should be replaced...

Greetings,

Update: took the Rostyle wheel to another tire store. They could not find the leak in the wheel. So, I bought a set of tires and watch as they changed them out. They also looked at the wheels and I was pleasantly surprise at the apparent good shape they were in. Also surprised at how much better the MGB is to drive with new tires.

Thanks to all for your input and making me feel welcome to this forum.

Cheers,
