roll up window

I have a 67 BJ8 with rollup windows. I have to replace the small plastic guides that keep the window in the slide track. It appears I have to remove the U channel from the window glass, but I'm afraid I will break the glass trying to get them off.Any suggestions on what will loosen them from the glass. Thanks for any help. Steve

Steve, a thin putty knife tapped into the channel will help break the bond. Then a flat drift, somethng like taking a wide old wood chisel and grinding the edge flat. Use it to keep gentle tapping along the edge to push it off the glass. You will have to drill out a couple of rivets to get all the guides replaced then rerivet when assembling. It goes pretty easily. Instead of using the rubber strip from most of the supplies, when reassembling just chaulk the channels with Black RTV. Have some Lacquer thinner available to wipe up what oozes out. Black RTV holds it real good. Dave.
