That's a nice site but i really like the one with two humps for looks on the street. Think it was a British site though. Too bad someone from this side of the pond dosen't make one. Would also be nice to have a wind screen on it for us old folks. Thinking of my wife and blowing hair etc.
Have you looked at Performance Research Industries? www.prirace.com I know they make a 'double hump' design for the Spitfire, it may be adaptable for your car or they might fabricate one for you.
look for a 4x4 fabrication shop locally, or even just a metal fab shop. For the prices I've seen in the catalogs and online, you could have one made around here that's higher quality for less money...
I plan on having one that matches the body color when I get to that point, but I may end up powdercoating it. I think it was a silver MGB V-8 mod that somebody did, that has a double bump rollbar that looks pretty good, and I may do that as well.
I would be surprised if a fabrication shop can do a one off cheaper than someone who has already done all the hard ground work and now has all the dimensions etc to work from.
It takes a lot of time and trial to do the first unless you have something to hand to copy. I would also assume that the existing manufacturers are using the correct specification tube which a general fabricator may not do. ( I know you say that it is for looks but if you do fit one, why not have one that is safe, it may prove to be effective one day?)
Actually, there are alot of talented fabricators in small shops that will do things for a very reasonable price (esp. if it is not a rush job). I know this... because my father builds streetrods and utilizes several different local fabricators for some of the work for which he does not have adequate equipment. (Like a mandrel pipe bender). However, it will certainly vary by location.
Brian, I have a friend in Brighton, about 30 miles south of you, that is a master at tube bending and TIG welding. He does all my roll cages, as well as those of several other sports car racers in the area.
I'll be glad to PM you his phone number if you're interested.
Jeff
