Roger's Cup Holder in a BT7

Roger got beaten up pretty badly over the cup holder recently and so I thought I might help relieve a little pressure on him, by sharing my installation of his idea in my BT7. When you are waiting around for the engine to be finished you do stuff like this!

A couple of small changes:
1. I believe my cup holder is a slightly newer model for a VW Jetta
2. I used the same aluminum strips for mounting brackets with JB Weld, but I used nutserts to make the install and/or removal really simple.
3. I installed the unit first with the plastic "folding door" as orginal, but decided it would look better if it were covered in the same vinyl as the dash fascia. What do you think?
4. Because I have a BT7 my install was to the underside of the parcel shelf rather than the glove box. In the BT7 the vertical height of the beverages is restricted a bit compared to the BJ8. However, it does not restrict passenger access.

So go ahead and let me hear your thoughts. Like Roger, I am building a driver (hopefully some long distances) so the cup holder does become a nice little novelty convenience.

Cheers and let's have it.

Very nice Lin. I'm sure it'll work just fine. I would worry about getting "stuff" out of the shelf. Mine is full.

looks pretty good, even if I have a hard time with the concept...but hey, there's an ashtray in my healey, so go figure.

Lin, your interior looks really great. The cupholder "disappears" with the vinyl on it.

Thanks for the compliments! I am now retiring to the garage to sit in the car and have a cool drink.

As soon as I am done, I will post some images of the complete car.

You will have to check with Roger on that installation. He is the one who started this with his beautiful BJ8.

They still make Fresca?

Now can you show me how to put it in a BJ8?
Why on earth would you want to know how to put a Fresca in your car Scott? I'd stay away from that "upgrade" /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/yesnod.gif
