My BJ8 rocker arms appear to have some lateral play. It's not much, and a knowledgable mechanic says that the play is not worrisome. Before disassembly, the oil pressure was low, but not dangerous. Since then, w'eve added new lower end bearings,bored out the cylinders, new pistons, new rings, new cam and lifters. I'd like a second opinion on leaving the rockers and rocker shaft alone. Ideas?

You should rebuildt it. I did everything with my engine, except the rockerarms/shafts/bushes. After the engine rebuild I had some problems with low oilpressure. Just to be sure that everything else has been done properly with your engine rebuild, you should rebuild the rockerarms as well. Rockerarm problem are the most common problem that causes low oil pressure on Healeys. I did my rockerarms this winter, now the oil prssure are ok.

Use RAM as mentioned above. I got mine back from them and initially thought they had mistakenly sent me a new assembly. They assured me it was my original assembly and had been rebuilt. New shaft, bushes, adjusters, clean clean clean........ Stopped the geysers I had and helped the oil pressure. They also replaced the stripped out oil line pedestal.
No financial interest just a very impressed and pleased customer. They charged 125$ plus shipping a few years back.
CAUTION -- Be careful of the oil line connection upon reassembly!!!!! It MUST be lined up first.

I would carry it a step further. BEFORE the shaft is even put on the head, insert the oil feed fitting, screw it into the rocker stand & make certain that it is lightly bottomed in the rocker shaft hole. this will hold alignment while the stands are fitted to the head & their studs are fully tightened. Then, remove the fitting & install the banjo & line. Don't tighten either end of the line until both of it's fittings are well started on their threads.
