We're looking into Roanoke,VA,as a strong possibility,
& was wondering if any of you had any information on the area.
Looks like we WILL be moving, just deciding where.
The Anglia & B210 will have to go.I didn't realize that we've had the
'60 Anglia (105E) since 1994.
Now I REALLY feel guilty for not finishing it.

Don't know too much about it, but the couple of times I've been there it seemed like a nice town. Big enough to have what you need, but not too big - maybe around 100,000 population. Probably a hotter climate than what you're used to.

Doug - Might want to contact a car club there and get some feedback on the area. Why not contact Henry Fielding of the Central Virginia British Car Club.

It's a huge thing to leave an area where you have family, ties and activities, move 3000 miles and "start over" after 50+ years, especially if you don't have some personal contacts there already.

Definitely agree with Mickey on the warmer climate issue. Very different from Eureka California.

Let us know what you learn about the area.

I have only been there once 25 years ago for a long weekend vacation. My wife and I really enjoyed it. As Mickey said it is not too big and has most of what you will need or want. I found it to be a quiet and attractive place.

We have family in Richmond/Suffolk,so a big part of this move,
& the climate will be warmer wherever we go.
And the job market should be better than a smaller area.

I lived in Hampton (Buckroe Beach, actually) for a few years long ago, spent many weekends wandering around the area, from "Newpertnews" to D.C... but it's been so long I can't offer much more than to agree about the weather. Milder winters than we were used to in western PA.

Just keep in mind that you are talking about Roanoke, VA. That's quite a bit further west than Richmond, DC, and Newport News. You will have winter weather to deal with as you will find yourself in the rolling hills not far from Blacksburg.

My brother lives in Charlottesville and owned a house in Roanoke. If you PM me with your email address, I'll put you in touch with him. he's a former real estate broker.

I noticed that there's a lot of houses without garages in Virginia.
I HAVE to have a garage!
