Haven't posted a trip for a while so here goes. 5 states from Iowa in a couple days put us on the east shore of Lake Ontario.
Clayton NY Antique Boat Museum. Very cool but dog was hot in van so quick tour.
Yes 146+ mph.
Here is museum https://www.abm.org/
Currently on Saint Lawrence watching ships pass day and night. The engine drone comes long before the ship.
Heard coyotes across Saint Lawrence (The River to locals) at night. The museum just pulled out for season 28' Hacker which you can go for a 40 minute ride $25. Double rats.
Took 2 hour excursion trip in 1,000 islands. One feature is Boldt Castle deserted in 1903 at 97% completion (300 workers) after wife of Waldorf Astoria owner died until 1977 when foundation restored but can never be greater than 97%.
Typical boathouse $ from our campsite and post card of castle.
No Canada this trip, we headed south to Adirondacks, hiked up Bear Mountain where took shot of Cranberry Lake where we camped. Lake Placid 1980 Olympic Events drive thru. Currently west shore of Lake Champlain watching kite boarders. Green Mountains of Vermont in background where the ferry will take us tomorrow.
Thanks for the tips, I make notes in here:
which has better maps than some state maps, also topo.
That 2 AA led flashlight is better than the a D cell Maglight.
Canoed at Little River, VT, you can see van at campsite up on bluff.
Next morning from bluff.
From campsite at Adult Campground on Grand Isle on Lake Champlain, not nudist but no screaming kids. Ferry runs all night. State campground on other side of island had no views from campsite as did two others we drove thru before here. Compared to the west which we're used to everything seems small and close here. And whoever named these mountains never saw the Rockies.
Sometimes it's the small things.
Currently we have state of art technology recycling facility:
:
Best water in Vermont on authority of campground owner:
Art displaying fleeting beauty, it's chalk on outdoor chalkboard, about 4' wide:
A display of how long winter can be for some
and this isn't even half of them.
Owner said he used to be able to take tractor across lake to tavern but last few years the lake hasn't even frozen. Thought it might be a good time to send his wife out ice fishing.:highly_amused:
