Well, after considering the various options, SWMBO and I agreed the plan that makes the most sense is for me to fly down to South Carolina on July 4th, meet the seller of the 1959 Morris Minor Traveller I bought via eBay and drive her back to Chicago! Adventure and good times await! Of course I shall be equipped the the two most important tools available today - the cell phone and the AAA card! However I am putting full faith in the abilities of said Minor and have full confidence that it shall NOT fail to proceed. That being said, I will be motoring from Columbia via Richmond, KY to Chicago. My wife and kids will be heading from Chicago to Richmond where we plan to meet up and return together. If anyone here is in the vicinity of my general route, please let me know in case things go astray and assistance is required. If you mapquest Columbia, SC to Chicago, IL, you'll see the route I'll be taking. More details to come - stay tuned!:encouragement:

Sounds like fun. Have a good trip.

Good times!

We're a bit off the route, but you know you can call if you need.

How exciting. Are you crazy for driving it back?...Not when viewed from those of us in the old car hobby. I should think it'll be memorable.

Peter, I think it's a wonderful idea! Hopefully you won't be pressed for time and can really enjoy the trip. I would do it in a heartbeat. Just remember how old the car is and treat her gently. Enjoy your trip! Be safe. PJ

I would hit a local Sears or Home Depot for a set of 'generic' hand tools once you land in Columbia. And spares like genny brushes, a fan belt, some duct tape, 'mechanic's wire,' water jug, brake fluid (Castrol), etc. Ain't like ya won't have space for it all. :jester:

...and don't ya DARE forget to take a lot of photos!

Yup, ALL of the above, but most importantly, DUCT TAPE! No tool box should be without it! PJ

If you don't want to buy some new tools just put some in a USPS box and ship them to Alex- for $15.00 you can send a BUNCH of tools!
Have a great trip!!

UPDATE: My SO decided that she should have some fun and so she flew down to SC last night and picked up the LBPMC (Little British Proper Motor Car  ) and is driving back now. Like the old cereal commercial used to say "Hey Mikey - she likes it!" She thinks the car is a lot of fun and is enjoying the drive thus far. I have to admit I haven't been this excited about a car in a while. Pictures as I get them and more pictures when both ladies arrive tomorrow! :driving:

Spoke with my SO a bit ago. All is well. She is really enjoying the trip and the car. TOTAL attention magnet - the CAR, not my wife! :D She says 7 out of 10 cars that go by have cell phones out the window. And wherever she stops for gas etc. more picture takers who try very hard to look like they're NOT taking pictures! We are going to meet her in Indianapolis later today and drive the rest of the way back together.

After this adventure, I guess you'll need to start shopping for a car for you.
