Rivet Squeezer - help, John Loftus

Jerry said:
Well, we will wait for someone that has done the windshield.
Hi Jerry,
John Loftus hasn't posted here in a while. If no one else replies, you may want to email him.

Lin,

I got my windshield back and would like to try your rivet tool if possible. Please let me know how to send you the postage or whatever you need. Also, where did you buy your 3/16 rivets? I know that it may or may not work for the windshield but I would like to give it a try.

Jerry,
I am happy to send you the squeezer; however, I don't think it is going to work for your application. Can you send me an image of the area including the pieces that you want to rivet together so that I can take a look? My car is a BT7 so I have a different windshield. Did you see the picture of the rivet squeezer earlier in this thread? It is exactly the one I have.

Lin

Jerry,
Sorry I forgot. You asked about the rivets. The ones I used for the rear shroud came from British Car Specialist (the Nocks). But, I don't think that they are the same ones used on the windscreen. If no one on the Forum chimes in about the correct rivets and a source, I would call Dave Nock at BCS.

Lin

I'll chime in, only to confirm that British Car Specialists carries the windshield rivets. (At least they did when I needed them).

I found someone in the club with a tool. He says it will work and he used to work on cars for a living. I will give it a try and let you know.

Following up on this thread.... I should be installing the rear shroud this week for the last time and wanted to verify the external rear lower rivets as solid Alum. 1/8" Dia with 1/2" Dia Head?

Correct?

Thanks,
Michael.

Working from (always suspect) memory, the rivets are 5/32" at the "shaft." Half-inch for the head sounds way too big, they're probably about 5/16" dia. (whatever comes with a 5/32" rivet). BCS in Stockton, CA has these, and I believe you can get them at aircraft supply houses (recommend Aircraft Spruce).

You'd want to use the smallest rivet that will give a good bond, so if 1/8" works great, but I believe the originals were 5/32" and the holes probably haven't gotten smaller over time.

I'm with you on the rivet sizes Bob Spidell,I used all ali including the snap off shaft on the pop rivets on the rear shroud lip, I did for a while lean towards monel rivets

This popped (no pun intended) to the top at the right time!... I plan on putting my shrouds back on in the next 2 weeks.

Thanks,
Steve
