I know Bill and Will and have raced with them on many of occations. I used their 5 speed conversion kit for my sprite using the nissan 210 5sp. The car was a blast to drive on the street but the gearbox just couldn't handle my hp in racing condition. With 170hp, the only gearbox I could find that would not break in a season was from Jon Stamps Racing built with the nascar style(Richmond gear set)dog ear gear enguagement with ultra close ratios designed for road racing. Not fun for the street though. 1st gear is good for 80mph to make for a very slow start from a stop.

I think that kit, installed properly, would make for a great street or race application with as much HP you can give it without failure.

I put it in my recent 69 B project and absolutley love it. I tried the Ford Sierra version in my A, and it's nice, but the Datsun one is much nicer. Shifts like a dream!

anyone have a total on the costs for this? I have been eyeing it for some time since my ribcase is failing. I really would love to have the 5 speed but im afraid i wont be able to afford it.

It depends on what you want as to how much it will cost you. If you visit the Rivergate web site you'll be able to see all your options. I purchased the full package which cost less then $2,000. All you have to do is pull the motor & trans, follow the detailed instructions (no cutting or drilling necessary) and install the Rivergate prepped Datsun B210 trans. I was surprised just how well centered the shift lever was compared to the original MG shift lever location. My only after thought was that I should have asked Bill to shorten the shift lever about an inch. Call Bill and talk with him; you'll find him to be one of the nicest people to work with. Once I have my Midget (with 5speed) back together I'll probably be talking with Bill about a 5speed conversion for my B.
