Just lost the best little dog a man could ever hope to have. He was diagnosed with lymphoma about a month ago but daily steroids have kept him pretty perky until this morning. Woke up to very labored breathing and vet diagnosed blood clots in his lungs. He died quietly in my arms a few minutes later. Gonna miss the little guy terribly.

Man, it's tough losing a little guy like that.

At least you were there with him at the end.

I'm really sorry to hear that. Our furry friends are always there for us and you were there for him at the end. I've no doubt he had a great and robust life thanks to you.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

So sorry, I have an old yorkie and am worried myself.

Terrible thing to lose your dog, sorry the hear that yours is gone.

Best elixir: get a puppy and transfer all that love to him!

Sorry to hear about the loss of your dog -- never an easy thing.

Thanks so much guys. We do get so attached to them that it's like losing part of yourself. The good Lord let me be his caretaker and friend for 10 years and I'll be eternally thankful for that.

Sympathies, B.

I'm in for the same issue soon. Though we've felines, the attachment is no different. All mammals have distinct personalities, unique traits. If you're lucky, they're endearing... or maybe it's a curse they're so. Not sure. All I know is that they become an integral part of the family.

When the last of the trio of four-legged mammals here leaves us, I may consider an iguana. Never again do I want to go through this, and I have concern another cat/dog would out-live me... THEN what their fate would be. Too much responsibility.

It's just so sad when it happens. Our cat died in my arms last fall, it's not easy.

Best wishes,
Larry
