TR2/3/3A Rimmer vs. Moss body panels

I'm getting my list of panels together for the TR2 and Rimmer is hanving a sale on the panels I need - inner and outer sills, floors, and I'm thinking of picking up A-Pilars as well. My B-pillars look fine to re-use. (The A-Pilars looks good as well, but the cage nuts are all bad for the fender and door hinges and I'm not sure how bad I'll have to cut them to get the front sill to let go).

Is there any different at all between Moss and Rimmer on body panels, or are they all basically made in the same place and sold to the varius distributors? Rimmer, even with shipping and duties, is coming in significantly less for some of this stuff.

Thanks in adanvce,
Robby

You should not forget TRF. I do not know their present availability on body panels, especially for a TR2 if different from later models. I have used the TRF floor panels and found them very good. Better than others on the market.

Moss and rimmers and SNG Barrett are now under the same ownership. Basically the same company. They seem to take it in turns to have the offers.

So go for the best price with shipping.

They’ll all need fettling to fit your tub.

Thanks.
I'll go with the Rimmer while they're on sale. I have them getting me a quote for all the stuff I'll need to fit up a body for restoration. Hopefully they can get a good deal on the shipping and tarrifs won't kill the savings or take months in customs.

The number of people who are getting burned by tariffs is increasing. Including me. Be aware. And give thanks to our great leader(sic). Bruce

I'm actually thinking of getting the panels from Moss just to avoid sending my money to the government.
And they have everything but the A-Pilars in stock. I KNOW I can fab up lower A-Pilar sections and replace all the cage nuts if needed.

It's been a while since we discussed panels...I guess it's a good time to reiterate...

The best replacement panels you can get, which by FAR fit the best, are those commissioned and certified by the "British Heritage" foundation. They choose parts they think are needed and commission them to be reproduced to the original spec. The parts will have a British Heritage sticker on them. Ask if the parts are BH certified before you buy. If they are, you can breathe easy. If they are not, then hold your breath until they arrive, LOL. The problem is that BH commissions the particular part in a big batch to save money, but then may go a few years before they do another batch...so often the part you need is unavailable from them.

For the longest time, there were some "Made in USA" floors which were awful. Moss carried these, and they were very cheap. I got suckered into buying a pair because of the low price. They were hand formed...and very poorly at that!! All I can say good about them is they were 16gage, so thicker metal than original. I had to fight Moss to take them back. I have also bought parts from Rimmer Bros in England that were unusable. The return shipping means you end up eating their cost.

If the price is to good to be true...it likely is. You find some deals on Ebay from people that have BH certified parts, but didn't need them. In general (and this is rather old info), TRF had the most consistent parts, followed by Rimmer, followed by Moss. If they can't give you a confident description of a body part, then ask them to send some pictures.

Hello,
I restored a 1955 TR2 and needed many body panels that I purchased from multiple suppliers depending on availability (some where purchased during COVID so sometimes availability was very limited). Most of the body parts were from TRF when available, but some were from Rimmer and a few from Moss. Hands down my body guy preferred anything from TRF over any other supplier because of the overall fit and quality with Rimmer parts coming in second. Though Rimmer/Moss might be having a sale, sometimes saving a few bucks isn't worth it vs getting the good stuff from TRF.

Good luck with your restoration.

@1955TR2, Unfortunately, TRF is backordered on the inner sills for Sidescreen cars. They do have the outer sills, which everyone seems to sell as fitting short door TR2 though the last TR3B. I'm guessing they're all going to be the later part and I'll have to modify to fit the TR2. TRF also has the floor pans. I have the outer sills in my TRF cart right now.

The TRF floorpans are exactly the same cost as the Moss part, and Moss lists them as BMIH pans. I was going to go with them unless someone here knows first hand that the TRF part fits better.

The Moss inner sills are BMIH parts, so I'm hoping they're as good as I can reasonably expect.

Thanks for the advice!

A fair number of years ago I used a Moss floor panel. Then more recently on a different TR3A I used a pair of TRF floor panels.
The TRF floor panels are a significant upgrade to the BH that is on the market. I suggest that you call or contact TRF and have them tell you the upgrades. Then call Moss and find out if they have the same features.

Albert said their panels are the same as the Moss/Rimmer panels. So the inner sills and floors are BMIH.
I'll buy from TRF to support their business.

I apologize for my error. In the past Moss had a floor pan that did not include the caged nuts.
But my guess is that you may still save money with TRF. My experience is that the shipping and handling prices in the recent past at TRF are much lower.
Charley

@charleyf , no need to apologize. I sometime forget that TRF is back up and running and you and another poster reminded me to give them a look.
It turns out Albers has a set of wedge mount sidescreen cores as well, at a very reasonable price. So I scored some bits I'm missing and I get to support a family business. Thank you for setting me in the right direction.

Good luck with your project! Black and Blackberry is a nice look for the TR2!
Cheers
Dan
