Right hand side rear hub nut

Hi guys

Just failed the MOT on this side of the pond, oil in the back brakes on the right hand side. Having trouble getting the big hub nut off, what thread is it left or right

OK guys

I can now answer my question - it is a right hand thread on the right hand side of the axle and obviously a left hand thread on the other, except if you own an early BN1 when they were both right hand threads. later BN1's changed to Left and right. Steve's answer has left me with a puzzle as on my car the spinners (knock on's)are the opposite, LH thread on the right hand side of the car and RH thread on the left hand side. Had a chat to one of our Healey club members and his is the same. I believe that the hub extensions are marked LH and RH, but I am not sure if that refers to the thread or the side of the car it should be on. I am going to check with some of the suppliers to see if they can throw any light on it.

For the record,

Roger Moment's book on restoring Big Healeys states that the knock on's are :- left hand thread on the right hand side of the car and right hand thread on the left hand side of the car.
