Ribcase tranny - painted or bare?

The ribcase tranny I'm using looks like it was never painted, just left in bare aluminum from the factory. Is this how they came?

I don't mind painting it (I'd just paint it was a cast aluminum color), but if I can leave it bare that's even easier.

Bare is how they came from the factory for all of the Spridgets that I have had.

That makes things a bunch easier! The transmission cleaned up nicely, so I'll just plan to leave it bare.

Yeah, if they clean up nicely, I leave them bare, if they don't look good bare, I use Duplicolor hi heat engine cast coat aluminum, it about as close as you can get to fresh cast aluminum

I've been told that you don't want to paint a tranny. It needs to breath, might just be an old wife's tale.

MG's were bare from the factory - don't know about AH's though.

Smooth case trannys were painted same as engine, rib case were bare.
