RIB CASE MAIN SHAFT ASSEMBLY

When installing the third gear on the main shaft (rib case tranny), what is the trick to getting the plunger/spring depressed and then push the lock ring in place over the plunger. In the MGA transmission there is a small hole drilled in the synchro cone above the plunger to help depress the plunger, very simple. Am I missing something? Thanks for any help and have a good day!

Make a tool that looks like this and use it to hold the plunger in place while you get the ring in place.

Thanks for the reply. I did make a thin punch and was able to get the lock washer installed. A simple hole drilled in the gear or at least a groove would have been nice! Thanks again and have a good day!
