I have been on several other forums since geting back into Triumph world and this is by far the most active and informative. Maybe it's because the others are more Spitfire specific.

I started into non US cars with a 1960 Renault 4CV (bet no one else had one of those) in high school. My first Triumph was a 1960 TR3 sold it before going to Viet Nam. then a TR4 while I had 2 small kids. That wasn't my smartest purchase.

So now I'm all grown up and decided to get back to it. In March 2008 I found my Spitfire. It had a pretty rust free body and a seized motor with 2 broken rocker arms. I planned to get it running and do a rolling resto.

2 months later the body was off and I had countless plastic bags on the shelf. And my wifes's car was no longer in the garage. Changed my plans once I found out all the nice stuff under all that gunk.

It's now running with all new brakes a rebuilt motor a lot of new suspension parts, restored dash new carpet etc.
I will be doing my seats next and will post pic's as I progress.

I thought that srare tire would get some attention. My Ford F150 was in the shop and I had a flat on my Toyota Tacoma so the only way to get the tire in to be fixed was.....................
 
Nice Spitfire. We're not far apart, so we'll have to get together once it stops snowing, like this Tuesday again.

THIS is EXACTLY why I LOVE living in Florida! It hasn't even been cold enough to put my top up :smile:
 
Your correct. I didn't have one 4CV, I had 2. Robbie and I were in McDonalds at night and some kids came in. They said "I don't know what it is, but it sure is uglier than a Volkswagen. Two for $25 was inexpensive transportation. The diamond shaped number plate was held on by little bent over sheet metal tabs, just like the old tin toy cars.

I co-owned a Renault 4CV with a friend. We were too young to have driver's licenses and used the 4CV for a "woods car" in the Jersey Pine Barrens. Later, in 1969, I had a TR3.

There's a lot of us "car weirdos" here. You'll fit right in! :jester:

Hi! Good to see another Rhode Islander on the board. Your car looks great! You've done a fantastic job restoring it. My first car was a Spit. I bought it before I even had a learner's permit. Great & fun cars. I only had it for about 10 months though, a Toranado ran a stop sign and totaled it on me.

Oh no! Our family car growing up was a 69 Olds Toronado which I inherited when I turned 16 (before I got my TR4A senior year high school).

2 1/2 tons of solid steel car against a poor little Triumph? My sister had a run in with a stone wall one day and the stone wall lost so I shudder to think what your Spitfire looked like! :frown:

Thanks to everyone for the positive comments on my Spitfire. Paul and number six I am sure we will run into each other somewhere this summer. I believe I have seen Paul's TR 6 at either British car day or DOT at Larz Andersen. Last summer was spent sorting things out but now it is at a point where I can just get in and drive. When my seat foams and covers arrive fron the UK (I have my fingers crossed they will be nice) I will post some pic's of the work as it goes on. Ernie
