Revisiting the Sunroof

Those of you remember I have a 73 GT with a sunroof installed in Europe. I asked how to get to the cables to replace them so the unit will work off the electric motor. Today I partially disassembled the head liner to see if I could get to the sunroof cables. The sunroof is a complete unit. it is box like and attached to the roof by supports anchored to the original roof edged. There are two rods that go down the windshield colums and anchor to the body frame through a hole drilled in the base of the colum. I will try to take pictures tomorrow. I removed molding from the top of the sunroof but under the immediate sunroof (between the sliding roof and the top of the car. I found two cables that look like they are inside long springs. This is going to be an interesting project. If this sounds like anything anyone has run into give me a clue. Thanks.

Those are the drive cables. I'm only guessing without pics, but usually the cables are set up just like LBC wiper drive cables. The cable itself has a spiral winding around it to act like teeth on the drive motor, then that runs inside a tube for guidance. I can probably help a bit more with some pics.
I tend to get all the power sliding roof jobs at work. I guess It's cause I'm the only one who dosen't mind working on them.
But it sounds like your's isen't to far off of modern units.

I will post pictures tomorrow Banjo. Good to here it might be something I can fix. One of the covers for the cable has a name moulded on it (I think Sunde). I will get a picture of it, also. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif
