The reverse lights are always on, on the 74B. Is there a switch that might be stuck and needs to be lossened up or replaced? If so where is it?

2nd question is no LBC related. I just had my 91 Ford Ranger inspected. It has taken 2nd fiddle to the expidition so I don't drive it that often. Inspection was up in June but never got around to it until yesterday. Reverse light won't come on. My mechanic passed it but said it was not the fuse or the bulbs. What could this be?
 
Switch at the tranny in both cases is my WAG.

The B has it up on the case (right side, IIRC). Kinda awkward to access with the unit in the car, too. But it can be done with some fiddlin'.

You may be able to access it thru the inside if you pull the carpet/cover at the tunnel. Not sure tho. Someone with a "modern" car should be along soon. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif
 
stuck on all the time, could be wires reversed at the switch.

I'd like to have them working so disconnecting is probably out. I backed into my driveway the other day and got looks from the people behind me.

It being a switch would the reversed wires not matter?

I'll have to "fiddle" up there and see what I can feel.

I meant if they were stuck on all the time, then it might be switched wires and that they would go off when placed in reverse.

I have seen that on other later model vehicles after a engine pull.

Swapping the wires onna switch wouldn't do what is described. It's an "on-off" device. Either the wires going to it are shorted or the switch is mucked up. You ~should~ be able to access it thru the tunnel from the inside, it beats pulling the unit. It has a nylon button as the detent and can be misshapen over time with heat and age. I'd be for R&R and try to repair the one you have before I'd go for a "white-box" replacement, BTW.
