Hi all,
Looking back I see I actually joined quite a few years ago but never really posted anything, got involved with too many forums I guess.
Anyway now undertaking a restoration of my 1958 TR3A which I've been drving for the last 6 yrs and hopefully can now engage in an exchange of information with other members.

:savewave:Welcome again!

Thanks guys, Got a restored chassis to replace the daggy one under my car. I'm currently making up to have welded in a lot the re-inforcing gussets they used on the rally/race cars. I neither race nor rally but know how much difference a tight chasssis can make to the feel of the car.

Once the 'new' chassis is completed then I'll continue with dismantling the car to do work on the body and begin to transfer mechanical components onto the new chassis.

The body on the car is not too bad, I had it fully resprayed when I purchased it but a lot of the steel is simply tired, no rust as such but fatigue cracks and stuff like that, plus it was never fully stripped to be painted so this time around it'll be the full job.

Howdy Mike,

"Welcome Back" to the BCF. What the heck took you so long? Lets see some pics of the TR3. I`m in process of a "Body Off" on a `57 Small Mouth myself.

Man; Mine was simply put; "Rusty & Patched Paneled" to death!! But; She`s getting there. I`m hoping to have her completed by Mar / Apr, 2011. I`d say thats pretty good progress considering I bought her this past Dec!!!!

See Y`All Later,

Russ

Hi Russ,
I'll have a go in another post to put up some photos. I usually use photobucket in forums does that work here?
Anyway this car (my 2nd sidescreen TR) is a 1958 TR3A bought off a mate about 5yrs ago as a registered, drivable concern.

Did a mini restoration on it where all the brakes were overhauled, new alloy radiator, new suspension, overhauled gauges, high torque starter, alternator, electronic ignition and re-paint. Won the rookie award award in our concourse a few yrs back. However the car never had a full body off overhaul and the old chassis was very tired.

Getting a cracked cylinder head was the impetus to take the car off the road, initially I was just going to overhaul the engine but once I removed the motor I got a really good look at things underneath and around the firewall and decided if I was going to be spending money on an engine then I'd better get the body up to scratch first.

Finding a restored chassis for sale within our club gave me the kick start to get into it so here I am.

When I got this car I joined up into lots of Triumph forums but in the end was more busy driving the car then talking about it I guess, computer dying, loosing bookmarks all added to not keeping track of all the places I'd visited.

It'l be a long term project to get the car going this time around unless I win the lottery. I expect it will be the last classic car I'll own so want it right to see me into my old age.

Mike
