TR4/4A Restoring Interior of TR4A

I am getting ready to redo the interior on my TR4A. I plan to replace the carpet and panels (door, rear bulkhead, etc.). The goal will be to make it look as original as possible. Questions...

1) Is there a preferred supplier for this? Moss, Heritage, Victoria British? Does anyone have good or bad experience with anyone?

2) Does using sound insulation under the carpet, etc. appreciably lower the noise level? Is it something I should do?

Thanks-Ron

I'm getting ready to do the same with my TR6. The Roadster Factory will be my source for carpet. I've seen the kits at Triumphest, very high quality. I will be buying the wool set. I'll probably use them for the rest as well, unless I have a local shop match the pattern design in leather. Vinyl seats and nylon carpets were standard, The Raoadster Factory has those available as well.
Moss would be a good source as well.
No experience with Heritage.
Just my 2 cents worth, I'd stay away from VB. I've never been impressed by the quality of their products overall.

Cheers,

Rob

I'm redoing my TR6 and have pretty much settled on the Prestige Interior's product. They will send out material samples which are very helpful. Their leather/wool complete interior package seems to be a great deal on price.

I've bought the components for my TR4A interior and these are the choices I made:

carpet: TRF's Magic Carpet (tan tufted nylon)
Panel Kit: VB (compared VB to Moss at local LBC place and they appeared identical)
Dash Pads: BPNW - had the best reputation on the VTR mailing list and a good price.

No seat kits as I'm installing Miata buckets

NFI and YMMV

Raymond - how was the service from VB and BPNW?

VB was ok, BPNW was excellent. My personal opinion TRF and BPNW are the best! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Thanks to all. I'll probably order after X-mas. It doesn't sound as if there is a clear favorite source out there, so I'll look at them all (maybe not VB).

A word of caution if you're thinking about grey carpet (was the original color for TR4s, not sure if it was used on 4As). I have the TRF carpet and over the sun has turned the grey a strange orange color, especially on the propshaft tunnel. They sent a replacement for the worst piece but now the gearbox cover is morphing to orange so I think I'm just outta luck.

Hard to go wrong with basic black -- have had TRF black in the TR3A since the early 80s and it still looks great.

I just restored the interior of my 4A. Because the carpet was already in terrific shape, I actually left it. However, I did install sound and heat insulation beneath the carpeting and against the firewall, and having now done that to two TR4s, I'll say that dollar for dollar (other than my new wood dash from Randy Keller in Palo Alto)it's the best thing I've done. Good luck and, yes, spend time cutting and fitting a good insulating product.
