Restoring dashboard on BJ8

Hello All.
I wanted to restore the dashboard on my BJ8 to its former glory, just wondered how to remove the old varnish, (varnish stripper, scrape, sand.)I didnt want to mess it up as Geoff Healey signed the inside of the glove-box lid at a concourse event in the 1980's. Although the veneer is in good condition the varnish has crazed.
Thanks. Phil /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/england.gif

Hi PhilM, Usually a high quality varnish stripper and a plastic putty knife [ scraper ] will get it off.---Fwiw--Keoke- /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/patriot.gif

You might try laying a rag soaked in lacquer thinner over wood. It should disolve the varnish and leave veneer lightened and dry ready for a fine sanding and new finish.

Somtimes works but in this case it will mess up Geoff's signature on the back.---Keoke- /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yesnod.gif

Take a look at the dash being sold on ebay by this seller. The item I bought is as follows: 170035968326 It looks nice though I have not tried to install it yet. Just an option to the stripping and scraping.
