pics of my restored and fully functional heaterbox. The metal box was sand blasted and powdercoated and I painted the core silver (engine paint). I cleaned and reconditioned and painted the fan motor too.

Craig

it goes behind the dash, centrally (over the gear box). If you look up under your dash you should see a round hole where the heater box bolts over.
Did you find the wiring diagrams I posted on your 'engine help post' helpfull?

Craig

Thanks Craig,yes but

I purchased a Dan Masters entire car new wire harness
with his excellent wire diagram for the new wires.

I am struggling because i do not know how to read a wire
diagram and I have no idea how to install wires of any kind.

It usually takes me an entire day to change out a ceiling fan here at home.

Very nice job! Did you have the case powder coated? Is that a new motor, or did you rebuild yours? I had to buy new because no one locally would or could get any parts for a rebuild.

I took your advise and had the metal box sand blasted and powdercoated. The extra thickness over paint posed no problems in re-assembly.
Motor was in good condition (never used for 12 years!) so I just cleaned it, greased bushings and re-painted it in a good quality enamel. I had to source second hand air hoses, most of mine were long lost by PO.

Hi Craig,

Looks good!

I had my TR4's heater box powdercoated too.

Did you pressure test the heater core while it was out? I think many radiator shops can run a test on it, just to be sure it's in good condition. I ask because I didn't, and should have. Before using it I plan to take the heater back apart to double check the core.

Tinster, on the earlier cars (TR2/3/4) the heater was an optional extra, sometimes even dealer installed. However, I think by TR6 era it was pretty much standard equipment (someone please correct me if I'm wrong). I bet you don't have a lot of use for a heater in PR, though!

Our No. Calif. Winters are pretty mild and the car is now pretty much fair-weather-only, so I haven't been in any rush to reinstall the heater in my TR4. About all I'd want it for now might be windshield defogging. It sometimes did come in handy in Colorado, where I drove the car daily for 8 or 10 years. However, probably could have gotten by without the heater there, too, except for the fact that during my foolish (and hardier) youth the soft top only rarely got put up except in more "serious" rain or snow.
