I noticed on some of the resto sites, that they were making some rust repairs before blasting. I was going to strip car down and then start all rust repairs. Help Bob
 
Ever tried to weld rust? Hard to do and will come lose too.
So either dip it all or blast it to remove the rust.--Keoke
 
I don't believe you will ever know the complete extent of the rust damage until you get the car blasted. If it was like mine after blasting it was easier to move around due to the fact that about 300 pounds of rust and bondo was gone! Have a good day!

I had mine dipped and e-coated before doing any repairs. In retrospect, I wish I had done some of the obvious and major repairs done beforehand so that the repairs were e-coated. While it's true that you can't find all of the rust and other stuff until stripping, you can pretty well tell things like floor pannels or outrigers that need to be replaced.

My BN6 was totally stripped prior to repairs so I'm in that camp.

When I'm stripping down a car I investigate each area where I know I need to do welding or body work. If the area is in good condition (other than the bit that needs replacing) and it's not a bondoy mess I'll fi it before stripping paint unless it's something that I a) question or b) won't look right if done that way. I do the same with dents/dings/etc. That way, when you're sanding for curvature you're removing the old paint and not the metal.

Keep in mind that you will have to double check it all then the car is stripped, and obviously, you run the risk of having to redo.
