Restoration Up-date & Clutch Question

Re: Restoration Update & Clutch Question

Rob,

Thanks for the advice. I'll try not to be too crude, although burping during the installation is most likely inevitable.

Seriously though, I don't completely understand what the clearance issue you quoted above is in relation to. A spec of dirt or a slightly larger blob of gasket sealer on one side of the bearing mount can make a .0005" difference in clearance...lol. That's like a couple of hairs dude! Anything within .010" would have to be better than the amount of slop present with the typical mechanical set up.

Don't scare me dude!

LOL

Re: Restoration Update & Clutch Question

ok,ok.
I tend to go overboard when it comes to alignment of parts that spin 6500 rpm.
I'm not talking clearance but location squarness and position relative to centerline. The TO needs to be dead center of the tranny/engine and parallel to the face of the flywheel/bellhousing face. The flip side is that if you are out of whack, you will go through more bearings and possibly pressure plates (although i guess pressure plates are not built to that tolerance).

Re: Restoration Update & Clutch Question

Ahhhh...I see.

Geesh, I'd hate to build a house for you. "That window is .0002" off center to the east of the north wall...fix it!" LOL

Okay, so if the spline on the input shaft is the same as the hole in the TOB, 1.25", this part should not be too bad. I'm assuming that the rear wall of the bell housing that the gearbox is bolted to is plumb and at 90 deg. to the input shaft, so as long as the mounting flange of the TOB is flush to the rear of the bell housing after it's bolted in, I should be alright...right? Unless I really screw something up, which is not entirely out of the realm of possiblity (understatement), everything should fit together nicely. If not, I'll go get a Toyota tranny...lol. Seriously, if worse comes to worse, all I have to do is go back to the mechanical set up. Which really isn't that bad to begin with, it's just not enough of a challange...lol.

Tab,
:yesnod: :yesnod: :yesnod:
If you can squeeze a tight fitting sleeve both inside the T.O. bearing and over the input shaft, that will help a lot. you will be looking for bolts ,with an unthreaded portion, that are a snug fit through the T.O. mounting base (not loose through the holes).
let me know how it goes.
Ps-check your work e-mail for a pm i sent.
