Restoration tips, some from experience.

Thanks to everyone for your contributions and expansions on my original post.
Update from last night, don't store your new carpet kit in the garage where mice or chipmunks can chew it up!
Even though the old carpet was out in the open they chose the new stuff in a cardboard box; though luckily only one piece is damaged!

Let me elaborate on #2, a bit... I love rollerball pens at work, DON'T USE'EM!! Get a Sharpie or two,... and make drawings. There's nothing worse than opening the bag of 27 bolts, and trying to figure out why 3 of them are longer. Had good luck making wiring with a Sharpie, and Avery style labels. My notes all are filed by subject in the workshop manual.
Good luck Bob

One mo' suggestion:

If planning to replace the wiring harness, cut the main harness at the bulkhead and then remove all the electric components but don't unhook the wires. Remove the instrument panel but leave all the wires hooked up to the gauages and components. Also leave all the harness clips on the harness. Then when you buy a new harness lay the old harness on the ground (I used kraftpaper on the ground and did this indoors) next to the new harness. Use a label maker to identify and label the new harness connections and use twist ties to mark where the harness clips go. I still used an OHM meter and wiring diagram to double check things but I was quickly able to label the connections for all the entire harness. Only then did I take photos and remove the electrical components making small diagram sketches of the connections and any unique markings/orientation of the components that would help after the refurbishing the components and installing.

Cheers,
John

Alan, if I never put in the prices, I never have to worry about the total. Nor will my wife.....
