Restoration Quality Radiator Caps?

I'm set to begin restoring/repairing my Healey's cooling system and was wondering if anyone knew where to obtain any original or original-looking radiator caps, e.g. the ones with the raised "TIGHTEN>>..." etc. letters around the cap top, and with the larger central brass rivet? I'm upgrading a few things but generally trying to keep it pretty close to original. My existing cap is stock but emits a quiet hiss when the engine is hot, definitely time for a replacement. The 7 lb caps from Moss & Victoria are functional but not close to the original. Any sources? Many thanks.

Hi try British Car Specialties in Stocton Ca. I think they carry one very close to the original. Additionally there is a company "Classics a Go Go" in the UK that stocks them. Just be sure and specify the neck depth on your radiator---Fwiw--Keoke

Tom,

I had a similar problem with my old radiator cap and had bought a replacement, when the issue of radiator caps came up here the last time. I decided to take a fresh look at my original cap after reading about all the silly little issues with replacements and finally reaslized that I may have been a little too quick to toss the original.

I found that over the years, the little ears that hold the cap tight had bent just enough to create a problem. After about 30 seconds of fiddling with the ears, bending them up slightly to snug up the cap, it was perfect again and has held perfectly ever since.

So before you toss an original cap, give it a try. It may be all you need.

I agree with Tom on this one. Also, replace the gasket before installing.
