Restoration Progress - Boot Installed

Our restoration of a '63 BJ8 (first day of production) is going well. We installed the boot yesterday. The only issue was getting the latch to line up. Never had a problem on previous cars I have worked on, but this one was a 3-dimensional puzzle. Had to get the boot latch in the right position and the shroud hook in the right position. Took about 6 tries. Pretty simple mechanism compared to modern cars. Made me wonder if anyone ever had someone pry up the boot to steal stuff from the trunk. That would cause a lot of damage!

Yes it is a bit of a puzzle, it took me several goes to get it right, I should have looked inside before I dropped the tank in, which is what I intended to do, but eagerness to get the job finished for this years Goodwood put common sense out of the window. I just need to lean a bit on the bottom left hand side and the hook connects wonderfully

Bob
