Someone who shall remain nameless but isn't me and isn't my wife but lives under my roof and is a teenager and female spilled something on the keyboard of my Vaio laptop (that or the cat).

keys H and N are sticky. I don't really want to pull the keys as the last time I did I broke them. Tonight I sprayed compressed air (rattle can of air) under the keys - no difference. I have a can of contact cleaner - would that work? or would I wreck something?
 
Yikes.

There's not much short of disassemble and clean that I know of. With a Vaio it'd be best to "bite the bullet" and get a repair ticket with Sony (website), ship the thing to their repair center. You can call them and get an idea what it'll take. They're really good with customer support, in my experience.

The other way is a DIY keyboard removal and distilled water wash/alcohol rinse, then a hair dryer on cool/low as drying accelerator. But it's more akin to watchmaking than LBC repair.

The keyboard should pop out easily and there is only a small ribbon connector tying it to the rest of the machine. Do not try to clean it while attached to the computer.
 
I spill junk in my keyboard all the time (traditionally coffee).

Turn the machine off, power it down and remove the battery. Get someDe-Solve-It adhesive remover (it's citrus based). Start by soaking a paper towel with it and wiping on the keys. If that doesn't free it up you can then spray it on the keyboard.

The only item of caution is to keep it turned off until the keyboard is fully dry again.

For revenge purposes, spill soda on her phone. :smile:
 
I clean my desktop computer's key board by tossing it in the bathtub! You can submerse these without a problem. A few shakes and out in the sun for an afternoon. Good as new.
