I am purchasing a 1960 BT7 and the ownership history is unknown. How do you go about getting that information?

Thanks for suggestions.

I believe you're asking for "previous owners" information? If "yes", there's a Registry for your series of car but I don't know who the contact is. Maybe someone will chime in with the contact information??

I'm aware of two private registries that strive to track owner data- you can enter the chassis number to see if by chance a previous owner entered the data:

www.healeydata.com/

https://www.healeyexperience.com/registry/

Other than that, public records searches are your only options that I am aware of. Start with request to the DMV of your state under the Freedom of Information Laws, and if you get leads to other states (such as who the car was sold to initially via the Heritage Certificate) you can move on to those states, as well.

There is a federal privacy act that limits access to DMV records, so your registries are probably your best bet. I worked with my state when online access was being set up, you have to have an "authorized use" insurance, law enforcement, etc. Good reasons for it, but no fun for those of us who like to track such things.
