replacing water pump

Found a leaking water pump this spring when getting our midget out. Just finishing the installation. Just tighten the hose clamps on the pump; tighten the pump mounting screws; mount the fan; hang the belt; mount the top alternator bolts and adjust the belt; fill the radiator; and go for a test drive (to granddaughter's soccer game).

From what I recall in the shop manual after I changed my water pump, I believe you fill the reservoir halfway, run the car for a very short period, and then add more antifreeze. Apparently this is to get rid of the air pocket that forms when you refill the coolant. If your temperature gauge goes past where it normally parks itself when it reached operating temperature, you still have an air pocket in the cooling system.
