Replacing Transmission Tail Seal

Greetings All,

My 72 TR6 has developed a chronic oil leak which appears to initiate from the tail shaft oil seal of the transmission. Tonight I pulled off the exhaust system and ordered up a new seal from Moss Motors as well as a few other items. Has anyone had any experience in replacing this rear transmission seal? The manual shows this as an easy job but also indicates a special British seal tool is required. What am I in for on this? Thanks for any input you can offer.

Just follow the book and everything will be fine. Very few people have the original tools and are able to do the job effectively and efficiently. Take care when installing the new seal so not to damage or distort it.

Don,

Don't forget to check the front end of the drive shaft for grooves that may have been made by the present seal over time. I ran into that and had to put a sleave over the front of the shaft so that it wouldn't leak after putting in the new seal.
